Valentina De Santi, in December 2016 I got my PhD in joint supervision between the doctoral school «Territoires, Sociétés, Développement» of the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociale in Paris and the doctoral school «Geografia storica per la valorizzazione del patrimonio storico-ambientale» of the Univerisity of Genoa. In my thesis – Topographie pittoresque. Art et technique militaires dans la mise en oeuvre du plan-relief du siège de Rome – I have dealt with the theme of relations between the cartographic production of French military engineers and the French tradition of military fortress models, investigating the notion of topography.
The lines of research that I carry out with my work, based on the biographical and microhistorical methods, deal with the analysis of the system of knowledge engaged in the construction of the geographical discipline and in the ways of representing the territory and the landscape during the XVIII-XIX centuries. Particular attention is given to the relationship between geography, geology and history in their trans / national declinations and to the theoretical reflection on iconographic representations. Object of study at the center of my investigations are visual sources (cartographic, pictorial, three-dimensional models) in the construction of knowledge and in the process of political and patrimonial appropriation of space, at the scale of urban and territorial site.
Valentina De Santi, nel dicembre 2016 ho conseguito il dottorato di ricerca in cotutela tra la scuola di dottorato in “Territoires, Sociétés, Développement” dell’Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociale di Parigi e la scuola di dottorato “Geografia storica per la valorizzazione del patrimonio storico-ambientale” dell’Università degli Studi di Genova. Con la tesi – Topographie pittoresque. Art et technique militaires dans la mise en oeuvre du plan-relief du siège de Rome – ho affrontato il tema dei rapporti tra la produzione cartografica degli ingegneri militari francesi e la tradizione dei plastici, interrogando la nozione di topografia.
Le linee di ricerca che porto avanti con il mio lavoro, improntato al metodo biografico e microstorico, affrontano l’analisi del sistema di saperi mobilizzati nella costruzione della disciplina geografica e nelle modalità di rappresentazione del territorio e del paesaggio durante i secoli XVIII-XIX. Una particolare attenzione è data al rapporto tra geografia, geologia, storia nelle loro declinazioni trans/nazionali e alla riflessione teorica sulle rappresentazioni iconografiche. Oggetto di studio al centro delle mie indagini sono le fonti visuali (cartografiche, pittoriche, dispositivi tridimensionali) nella costruzione dei saperi e nel processo di appropriazione politica e patrimoniale dello spazio, a scala di sito urbano e territoriale.
